Marxe Talks: Shutting Down VOA and “the Radios”
Tuesday April 8 12:30-1:30 pm EST | ONLINE event on zoom
For decades autocrats across the world have tried to jam US-funded international broadcasters. Now the Trump administration has done that for them shutting down Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks and others. Dr. Jeffrey Gedmin, head of MBN and former head of RFE/RL, will join MIA program director Carla Anne Robbins to discuss the role of these broadcasters in a world of 24-hour news and the cost of this decision for audiences in authoritarian states–and for US soft power.
Speakers:
Jeffrey Gedmin, PhD, President and CEO, The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN)
Carla Anne Robbins, PhD, Faculty Director of the MIA Program and Clinical Professor, Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, CUNY
