Event Description:

This day-long conference, co-organized by the Howard J. Samuels State and City Policy Center at Baruch College-CUNY and the International Migration Studies MA Program at the CUNY Graduate Center, brings together scholars and practitioners to examine how asylum is governed and experienced in New York City across past, present, and future contexts. By situating current developments within a longer historical and institutional perspective, the conference seeks to move beyond crisis-driven narratives and foster sustained dialogue across research, policy, and practice. The goal is to generate insights that can inform more equitable, sustainable, and humane approaches to welcoming asylum seekers in NYC and other global cities.
